Influence of surface anisotropy on the hysteresis ofmagnetic nanoparticles

چکیده
We present the results of Monte Carlo simulations of the magnetic properties of individual spherical nanoparticles with the aim to explain the role played by surface anisotropy on their low temperature magnetization processes. Phase diagrams for the equilibrium configurations have been obtained, showing a change from quasi-uniform magnetization state to a state with hedgehog-like structures at the surface as kS increases. Through the simulated hysteresis loops and the analysis of spin configurations along them, we have identified a change in the magnetization reversal mechanism from quasi-uniform rotation at low kS values, to a non-uniform switching process at high kS . Results for the dependence of the coercive field and remanence on kS and particle size are also reported.

Influence of surface anisotropy on the magnetization reversal of nanoparticles
The influence of surface anisotropy on the magnetization processes of maghemite nanoparticles with ellipsoidal shape is studied by means of Monte Carlo simulations. Radial surface anisotropy is found to favor the formation of hedgehog-like spin structures that become more stable as the surface anisotropy constant at the surface kS is increased form the value at the core. We have studied the cha...
متن کاملRole of surface disorder on the magnetic properties and hysteresis of nanoparticles
We present the results of Monte Carlo simulations of a model of a single maghemite ferrimagnetic nanoparticle including radial surface anisotropy distinct from that in the core with the aim to clarify what is its role on the magnetization processes at low temperatures. The low temperature equilibrium states are analized and compared to those of a ferromagnetic particle with the same lattice str...
متن کاملReverse chemical co-precipitation: An effective method for synthesis of BiFeO3 nanoparticles
The reverse co-precipitation method was used for synthesis of the pure phase multiferroic BiFeO3 (BFO) nanoparticles. Influence of different pH values on the microstructure and magnetic properties of the BFO nanopowders was investigated. Thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA) technique indicated that the optimal temperature for calcination is 550°C. The phase formation and the...
متن کاملEngineering of core/shell nanoparticles surface plasmon for increasing of light penetration depth in tissue (modeling and analysis)
Objectives: In this article, a new procedure for increasing the light penetration depth in a tissue is studied and simulated. It has been reported that the most important problem in biomedical optical imaging relates to the light penetration depth, and so this makes a dramatic restriction on its applications. In the optical imaging method, the detection of the backscattered pho...
متن کاملFrom Finite-size and Surface Effects to Glassy Behaviour in Ferrimagnetic Nanoparticles
This chapter is aimed at studying the anomalous magnetic properties (glassy behaviour) observed at low temperatures in nanoparticles of ferrimagnetic oxides. This topic is discussed both from numerical results and experimental data. Ferrimagnetic fine particles show most of the features of glassy systems due to the random distribution of anisotropy axis, interparticle interactions and surface e...
